What is the next step and time frame special ballot?

After careful consideration, the TCMSD Board of Education has decided to no longer pursue a special election at this time. As we are dedicated to providing a top quality education in safe and up to date facilities to the students of Sierra County we will continue to discuss the options for the feasibility of building a new Middle School which could include adding a bond election to the November ballot. This action would take place during a regular Board meeting and the public will be informed if the Bond will be in the November Election. Thank you for your continued interest in supporting the students and schools of Sierra County.

TCMSD Special Ballot Update:

The special election for Education Technology Notes was originally scheduled for March 4, 2025. Due to an error in the legal documents prepared by the bond counsel, which incorrectly referenced lease agreements instead of Education Technology Notes, we are now required to revise and resubmit these documents to the county clerk.This error has also impacted our ability to partner with the city of Truth or Consequences for a shared ballot.

The district understands the importance of this special election, as it directly affects our ability to increase the mill levy—a critical step in applying for the state waiver necessary to fund the construction of a new middle school. While this delay is frustrating, we remain committed to moving forward with this initiative and are working diligently to resolve the issue.

At this time, the district is exploring the potential to reschedule the special election for this spring. This would allow the district to stay on track for the waiver application process, which opens in June 2025. Updates on the timeline and next steps will come as soon as information becomes available.
